October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to hold in our hearts the babies who are no longer with us and the parents who carry their memory every single day. We know that loss like this is heavy, painful, and often hard to put into words. Grief doesn’t have a timeline, and it doesn’t look the same for anyone — and that’s okay.
At FIT4MOM, community is at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate each other’s joys, lift each other through struggles, and walk alongside one another during the hardest moments. If you are a mom who has experienced pregnancy or infant loss, please know: you are not alone. You are seen, your grief is valid, and your baby is remembered.
On October 15th, families everywhere take part in the Wave of Light, lighting candles at 7 p.m. in memory of babies gone too soon. It’s a quiet, powerful reminder that across towns, cities, and states, parents are holding their babies in their hearts together.
How We Can Support One Another
Sometimes words aren’t enough — and that’s okay. Showing up is what matters most. Ways to support a grieving mom can include:
Just listen. Be present without trying to fix anything.
Say their baby’s name. Acknowledging the little one affirms the love that will always remain.
Small gestures matter. A kind note, a hug, or a check-in text can mean more than you know.
Remember the dates that matter. A due date or anniversary can be incredibly tender; reaching out says, “I remember with you.”
Healing doesn’t have a schedule. Some moms find strength in movement and community, like joining a FIT4MOM class when they feel ready. Others find comfort in counseling, support groups, or talking with friends who understand. The most important thing is that moms don’t have to go through it alone.
